Winter is coming to a close, making it the perfect time to save on past-season colorways and products that will be updated for next year. To help make room for new arrivals, REI Co-op is hosting an extensive end-of-season clearance event that starts on Wednesday, March 1 and will continue until supplies run out. From winter jackets to ski kits, rain shells, and insulation, it’s a great chance to score big-ticket items at a sizable discount. Starting on March 2, REI will also be adding camping gear and accessories to the mix. Below we outline the dates and details of REI’s clearance event, our favorite discounted items, and how to shop both in-store and online

This article has been sponsored by REI, but the picks and descriptions below were made independently and based on our experiences with and opinions of the products.

Dates and Details: March 1 Until Supplies Last

REI’s End of Season Clearance event kicks off on Wednesday, March 1 (Thursday, March 2 for camping gear) and will continue until supplies last. It’s important to note that this isn’t a standard REI sale—the clearance deals are less defined, and sizing and colorway options are a little more limited overall. With that in mind, we advise buying early since many products will likely sell out quickly. The good news is that you can shop either in-store or online at REI.com (the latter offers the best availability) to take advantage of the savings, including up to 60% off designs from leading brands like Outdoor Research, Black Diamond, REI Co-op, NEMO, Arc’teryx, Helly Hansen, and more. Below we outline some of our top picks for discounted gear, including winter and ski jackets, rain shells, insulation, and more.

Our Favorite End of Season Clearance Deals

REI Co-op: Up to 60% Off

Considering they’re hosting the sale, it comes as little surprise that REI is offering a ton of standout discounts on their in-house outerwear collections. On the ski side, their First Chair GTX and Powderbound lineups—which include both jacket and pant/bib styles—are discounted by 30% for men and 40% for women. In deciding between the two, the First Chair is the more performance-focused option with proven Gore-Tex waterproofing in an uninsulated, 2-layer construction, while the cheaper Powderbound is packed with 60- and 80-gram polyester for frigid days inbounds.REI End of Season Clearance (closeup of Stormhenge Hybrid Jacket)

On the winter side, we really like their Stormhenge Down Hybrid Jacket (40% off for men and 60% off for women), which is an excellent value even at full MSRP thanks to its combination of premium 850-fill-power down (with synthetic in moisture-prone areas), quality waterproof shell, and well-executed feature set. Finally, while relatively limited, REI does have a couple notable deals on the camping front, including 50% off their popular Camp X and Camp Xtra chairs.

Outdoor Research: Up to 60% Off

Seattle-based Outdoor Research knows a thing or two about wet weather, and we’re excited to see some of their leading rain and ski shells discounted significantly. One standout is the Helium Rain Jacket (60% off), which earned the title as our top ultralight/emergency rain jacket this year thanks to its good overall protection and toughness in a feathery 6.3-ounce package (for the men’s jacket). For a more multi-sport-friendly option, we like the Foray II (60% off) and women’s Aspire II (40% off), which feature upgraded Gore-Tex waterproofing, comfortable interiors, and full-length side zippers for dumping heat quickly while on the move.REI End of Season Clearance (wearing Outdoor Research Aspire II)

For the powder hounds among us, OR also offers an impressive selection of quality ski jackets, many of which are included in the clearance event. Our top pick for backcountry riders is the Skytour AscentShell Jacket (40% off), which boasts OR’s namesake AscentShell membrane that offers a great mix of stretch, breathability, and protection. Put simply, you won’t find a better-tuned piece for staying cool and comfortable on the mountain. For a step up in performance, their Hemispheres II (also 40% off) is another backcountry standout with upgraded Gore-Tex waterproofing, strategically placed stretch panels for mobility, and pit-to-hem venting similar to the Foray II mentioned above. And a final note: Don’t overlook OR’s discounted gloves and mittens—they’re consistently top performers across the board.

Arc’teryx: Up to 20% Off

Arc’teryx is a leader in technical mountain apparel, but their products rarely—if ever—come cheap. The good news is that some of their most popular offerings are discounted during REI’s end-of-season clearance event, starting with the legendary Atom LT Hoody (and women’s Atom Hoody), which are 20% off. Our top-rated synthetic jacket for years running, the Atom offers excellent warmth for its weight, is supremely comfortable, and boasts the decidedly sleek and attractive look that Arc’teryx is known for. If you prefer down insulation for its better compressibility and lofty warmth, past-season colorways of Arc’teryx’s premium Cerium Hoody are also 20% off.REI End of Season Clearance (putting on pack with Arc'teryx Atom LT Hoody)

Moving away from insulation, some of Arc’teryx’s leading ski and multi-sport shells are also on sale while supplies last. Starting with the former, their women’s-specific Sentinel collection—which includes the standard jacket and pants as well as an anorak, insulated shell, bibs, and top-of-the-line one-piece—is 20% off and one of the best options on the market for those who split their time between the resort and backcountry. For more of an all-around (read: non-ski-specific) design, past-season colorways of their women’s Beta AR (“all round”) and LT (“lightweight”) hardshells are also on sale.

Helly Hansen: Up to 30% Off

Norway-based Helly Hansen specializes in ski outerwear and mountain-ready shells, and we’re excited to see them well represented at this year’s end-of-season clearance event. One of their most popular designs—and a favorite of ours for several years—is the Alpha 3.0 Jacket (20% off), which checks all the boxes we look for in a capable resort-ready design. Highlights include quality PrimaLoft insulation that takes the sting out of chilly chairlift rides, great freedom of movement with four-way stretch, and clean styling that looks great. REI doesn’t currently sell the women’s version, but the Alphelia Lifaloft Insulated Jacket is a close alternative. To complete your kit, past-season colorways of Helly Hansen’s well-loved Legendary Insulated Pants are also on sale (30% off for men and 20% off for women) while supplies last.

NEMO: Up to 50% Off

NEMO is an irrefutable leader in the camping space, and some of our favorite products are discounted during REI’s end-of-season clearance event. Starting with tents, their Aurora Highrise series (offered in 4P and 6P capacities) is 25% off and stands out for its impressive livability—including a standing-height interior, steep sidewalls, massive footprint, and easy setup—and excellent all-around performance.REI End of Season Clearance (stepping out of NEMO Aurora Highrise tent)

Some of their top sleeping pads and bags are also on sale, including the luxurious Roamer pad and ultra-cozy Jazz sleeping bag—both of which are 25% off and come in both standard and double-wide versions. Finally, NEMO’s Stargaze and Moonlight chairs are both 50% off, which is a standout deal on two of our top-ranked designs on the market.

Exped: Up to 25% Off

Exped’s MegaMat series is legendary in the car camping world—their MegaMat Duo 10 has been our top-ranked two-person sleeping pad for years running. Cost is often the biggest obstacle, but 25% off during REI’s clearance event makes the price a lot more approachable (the one-person model is also discounted). To complete your kit, the MegaSleep Duo 25/40 Double is essentially two sleeping bags in one, allowing you to connect both pieces for a cozy and comfortable two-person setup or separate them on warm nights or when camping solo. Finally, on the backpacking side, their Ultra and Dura pads come in several variations depending on the levels of warmth and durability you need.

Black Diamond: Up to 50% Off

Black Diamond’s discounts are relatively few compared to most of the other brands here, but there are still some quality deals worth having on your radar. First is 30% off many of their leading gloves and mittens, from the ultra-warm and waterproof Mercury Mittens and Guide Gloves to the backcountry-ready Cirque and Tour gloves. One of their most popular women’s rain jackets, the StormLine Stretch, is also on sale, although sizing options for the discounted colorway are extremely limited at the time of publishing.

Other Details on the REI Co-op End of Season Clearance

There are a few ways to buy during REI’s End of Season Clearance event. If you live near a brick-and-mortar REI, you can shop in store. This is a great way to try on gear and clothing in person and make sure you’re getting the right fit. If an item is not in stock at your store, a sales representative can place the order for you online—you’ll have the option of picking it up in store or having it shipped to your home address. Alternatively, those who prefer to shop at home can make purchases directly through REI.com. Shipping is free on orders over $50 (members get free shipping regardless of the total), and you also have the option of sending your order to your local store for free pickup. Regardless of how you choose to shop, all items are covered by REI’s 100% Satisfaction Guarantee and can be returned either by mail or in store—with a few exceptions—within one year of purchase for members (non-members have a 90-day return window).
